After more than two decades of providing retail, leisure and entertainment options to the community in Jurong East, JCube will be closing its doors for the last time.
The popular shopping mall was a cornerstone of the Jurong East district and a place of happy memories for both staff and regulars. After its closure, the mall’s regulars have expressed sadness and a sense of loss as they bid farewell to the mall.
Ms. Mo, a long-time employee of JCube, has worked at the mall since it opened in 2012. She recalls the early days with fondness, when the mall was still finding its footing and the customers were just starting to discover the mall.
“When the mall first opened, there were a lot of people coming in to see what it was all about. We were all so excited as the mall quickly gained popularity and we were able to meet a lot of wonderful people,” she said.
The mall was also home to a number of regulars who became a part of the JCube family. From elderly folk who liked to take their daily strolls around the mall, to the teenagers who hung out there after school and the families who made a day out of it, JCube was a place of fond memories for many.
Mr. Tan, who is a regular at the mall, was among those who were saddened by the news. He has been visiting the mall every Sunday for the past five years and was looking forward to continuing the tradition.
“I have so many fond memories of my time at JCube. It was like a second home to me and I could always rely on the friendly staff who were always there to help. I’m really sad to see it go,” he said.
The mall staff also shared their sadness at the news of the mall’s closure. They were proud to have been part of a team that provided great customer service and made the mall a pleasant place to be.
“We have always been committed to giving our customers the best experience possible,” said Ms. Mo. “It’s been a pleasure working here and I’ll miss all the friendly faces that I’ve gotten to know over the years.”
JCube will remain open until June 30, 2021. Until then, the mall’s regulars and staff will be making the most of their time and enjoying their last few weeks at the mall.
“I’m going to make sure I enjoy every last minute here,” said Mr. Tan. “This place has been a part of me for a long time, and I’m going to miss it.”
As the mall’s regulars and staff bid farewell to JCube after decades of memories, the community will no doubt miss the popular shopping mall and all that it has given over the years.
